Chapter Three

Elijah was stunned. One minute he was moaning to himself that he really needed to get a haircut as he had never let his hair get so unruly before and the next the bathroom door was kicked off its hinges, and the entire doorway was taken up with the mountain known as Malacai. Instantly Elijah was aware of the fact that he was very naked and although being dirty and naked was bad enough, clean, aroused and naked definitely made him feel decidedly vulnerable. Before he even had time to grab one of the hugely fluffy towels that the hotel provided, Elijah was caught up in the arms he had been lusting after while he had bathed and held so tight he could barely breathe.

Struggling to get his errant body under control, Elijah missed Malacai’s statement for a moment. But as his brain kicked itself out of the fog it seemed to go into when Malacai was around, Malacai’s words finally filtered through. Mate. This huge mountain of gorgeousness was his mate and if Malacai’s fervent breaths and little nuzzles on his neck were anything to go by, the man was actually happy about it.

He had a mate! And it was a man! Not just any man either. A big man, solid, and obviously someone high up in the San Antonio pack. For a moment Elijah struggled to understand – his own nerve endings and emotions flying all over the place at being so close to the man. And then it hit him and without any hesitation, Elijah wrapped his thin arms around the strong neck of the man claiming to be his mate and held on tight. With this man in his life he would be safe and Elijah hadn’t been safe a day in his life, since he had gone through puberty and his first shift.

Finally Malacai’s nose came out of Elijah’s neck and the big man looked down at Elijah with so much emotion in his eyes, Elijah found it hard not to look away.

“I have been looking for you for so very long,” Malacai said almost reverently as one big hand came up and gently brushed Elijah’s hair off his face. “You have no idea how long I have been waiting for you.”

“So not a young pup then,” Elijah said, even though he wanted to slap a hand over his mouth as soon as the words slipped out. God he could be such a dick sometimes, especially when he was nervous. As it was he was finding it hard to think at all with his body tingling from contact with Malacai’s still naked chest. Fortunately his soon-to-be mate chuckled and Elijah knew he hadn’t caused offence.

“No, Elijah, definitely not a pup. I’m almost 100 years old and since I have known about the gift a mate can be, I have been looking for you.”

“And now you’ve found me,” Elijah whispered, suddenly sad for this gorgeous man. “I’m so sorry.”

“You,” Malacai said decisively as he moved
